Registration Opens in Russia for 12th Season of National Technology Olympiad

Registration has opened for the new season of the National Technology Olympiad (NTO), Russia’s largest team-based engineering competition. Applications are open to students in Years 5–11, as well as college and university students. Every year, the olympiad brings together hundreds of thousands of young people from across Russia and a number of other countries, offering them the opportunity to explore cutting-edge engineering fields. Every NTO participant can choose profiles that match their interests and try their hand at solving real-world problems.

Scientists Develop New Solution for 6G Communication Systems

A terahertz neuromorphic circuit developed by scientists at HSE University could make 6G communication systems both more accurate and energy-efficient. The circuit enables indoor tracking of mobile devices with an accuracy of up to 99%. The results were presented at PIERS 2026, an international symposium on Photonics and Electromagnetism held in China.

Students from HSE and Brest State University Develop Proposals for Development of River in Brest

The Vysokovsky Graduate School of Urbanism at the HSE Faculty of Urban and Regional Development, together with the Department of Urban and Regional Development at Brest State Pushkin University, held a summer school in Brest, Belarus. Over ten days, students from Russia and Belarus studied the Mukhavets River—one of the city’s main natural axes—and developed concepts for its integrated development.

HSE Economist Finds Way to Improve Efficiency of Stock Market Trading Strategies

An economist at HSE University has analysed possible trading strategies on the stock market and shown that investors can achieve higher returns if they determine the size of their trades based on the degree of intraday fluctuations in asset prices. When the key interest rate is high, the advantage of this strategy over a conventional one increases 4.7-fold. The study has been published in the journal Enterprise Development and Microfinance.

‘HSE Gave Me a Space to Listen to People Who Had Built Markets and Soak Up Their Experience’

Ravan Nuraddin ogly Novruzlu was born in Gazakh, Azerbaijan. Later, his family moved to Moscow, the city where he grew up, studied, and finished school. He enrolled at the University of Klagenfurt in Austria, where he studied International Business and Economics from 2021 to 2022. He transferred to the HSE Graduate School of Business (HSE GSB) in 2022 and graduated in 2026. In this interview with the HSE News Service, Ravan talks about what it felt like to get a perfect score in his thesis defence, how the knowledge he gained at HSE helped him grow his listenership to half a million people, and why one should never stop learning.

Scientists Develop Algorithm for More Reliable Processors in Data Centres

Researchers from HSE MIEM and Samara University have developed the LRF-3D algorithm to automatically bypass idle nodes in three-dimensional networks-on-chip. Thanks to its hierarchical architecture, the algorithm outperforms existing solutions in both speed and path accuracy, improving processor reliability for use in data centres, supercomputers, and AI computing. The source code and test results are publicly available.

Researchers Rank Recommendation Algorithms Using Sports Tournament Model

Researchers from the AI and Digital Science Institute at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed an approach for selecting recommendation algorithms more effectively. Their approach uses pairwise comparisons of algorithms to create a tournament table, with the overall ranking based on their performance across all datasets in the tournament. This can reduce the number of algorithms that need to be tested when developing new services, saving both time and money. The study was presented at the 32nd ACM SIGKDD Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (KDD 2026).

Researchers Develop Method for Direct Generation of Regulatory DNA

Researchers at HSE University have developed a model for generating promoters and enhancers—DNA sequences that regulate gene activity. The model works directly with DNA nucleotides, without first transforming them into a continuous numerical representation. This solution could be useful for applications in synthetic biology and gene therapy. The study results were presented at the ICLR 2026 Workshop ‘Generative AI in Genomics (Gen^2): Barriers and Frontiers.’
